Please note: This information should be considered as guidelines only. Each locate request scenario is unique and may be handled differently dependent on the situation.
A Large Project is a project that cannot be separated into stand-alone tickets due to the nature of the work, the large areas it covers and/or the path extends for long distances and the path cannot be determined without legal descriptions, GPS coordinates, or maps. Examples of Large Projects are projects that are more than 1 mile and run in a linear path cross country, Seismic jobs, and Wind Farm projects.
Helpful Information for ALL Large Projects:
- Jobs should be processed based on what can be done or started within 10 business days from the date of the request.
- Provide good field contact information.
- Maps/kmz files that detail the project are preferred. For some scenarios, these would be required.
- Provide legal descriptions and/or GPS coordinates if possible. For some scenarios, these would be required.
- Each locate request should provide driving directions from a major intersection and provide mileage/footage and compass direction to the starting point of the job. Then provide the route of the excavation/boundaries from there including mileage/footage and compass direction to the end.
- Stake or mark the excavation path and/or provide identifying information for starting and stopping points such as highways, roads, rivers, county lines, etc. For some scenarios, a marked/staked path would be required.
- Provide what radius you need marked around the staked, marked, or visible path.
- Please do not update parts of the job that are complete, this may require a new ticket entry to remove the parts of the job that are complete. OKIE811 suggests that any job that will go beyond 10 business days to be updated on the 8th business day.
There could be up to a 24 hour turn-around time (business days) for processing after all Large Project information is submitted to OKIE811.
You may send maps and/or extensive GPS Coordinates lists to etkt@okie811.org once you have submitted the request. Please provide your company information and what job the map is in reference to in the email.
Cross Country Jobs
Cross Country is defined as long distance jobs that may go through field/pastures and OKIE811 is unable to determine the path of the excavation without legal descriptions, GPS coordinates, and/or maps provided by the excavator. The route of the job is usually in a northwest, southwest, northeast or southeast direction and does not follow a road.
If only excavating to do the road bores along the cross country job, a ticket should be processed for each bore and not the entire job, this would not be a large project.
- If work will begin in various areas throughout the entire project, separate job into 5 mile or less segments. Highways, roads, rivers, and county lines are great job separators. Driving directions would be required to each starting point and a description of excavation path with compass direction and mileage/footage.
- Maps/kmz files, legal description and/or GPS coordinates are required for most cross country jobs. OKIE811 will use this information to process the locate request; however the provided map is not sent to members by OKIE811.
- The path of excavation must be staked and/or visible for locators. Please state this on the locate request.
- If route consists of multiple turns, please provide the specific turns including mileage/footage and compass direction.
- Locate instructions should read: Locate ____feet radius of the (stakes/marks) working (compass) direction for ______miles/feet.
- Request a site meeting if needed.
- Provide a job number or name if possible.
Seismic Jobs
Seismic jobs consist of vertical drilling in the ground to measure the earth’s movement due to waves of energy that travel through the earth due to earthquakes or explosions, etc. Due to the size and various areas involved with these jobs, most are processed using boundaries (roads that create a perimeter around the job).
- Provide road names/numbers for the East, West, North, and South boundary of the job.
- Provide if locations within those boundaries are marked or staked and what radius you need located around that mark/stake.
- If the area is not marked/staked, please indicate that on the locate request and include site meeting information or contact information for someone with your company to show the locators where to locate.
- Provide maps/kmz files for the project. OKIE811 will use this information to process the locate request; however the provided map is not sent to members by OKIE811.
- Provide legal descriptions for the entire job and/or GPS coordinates for boundaries or marked locations (if applicable). Legal description should include Range, Township, Section, Quarter Section. Legal Descriptions would be required for large Seismic jobs.
- Provide Job Name/Number
Wind Farm Projects
A Wind Farm is a group of wind turbines in the same general location.
- Provide road names/numbers for the East, West, North, and South boundary of the job. Or if able, provide driving directions to the start point and then compass direction and mileage/footage to end of path.
- Provide if locations within those boundaries are marked or staked and what radius you need located around that mark/stake.
